SOUTH LONDON FELLOWSHIP BAND (SLFB)

PRESS RELEASE

The South London Fellowship Band are pleased to announce the appointment of Darrell Scholes as its Associate Conductor.

Darrell was taught to play the cornet at the age of seven by his father, and with his formative years being spent in Yorkshire he came under the tutelage of many well known Salvation Army and contesting musicians in that region including the late great maestro George Thompson.

Following a move to London, Darrell joined the solo cornet section of the International Staff Band where he came under the influence of Lt. Colonel Ray Bowes, Colonel Robert Redhead, and Doctor Stephen Cobb. He has been a member of the Croydon Citadel Band for over twenty years, and has also featured as guest conductor with the Friary Guildford Band, and Horsham Borough Band.

Major George Whittingham, the founder, and Principal Conductor of the SLFB said, ‘‘I am delighted to have a fellow Yorkshireman, with such a wealth of experience alongside me, as the SLFB enters a new chapter in the Band’s history’’
