BAND PROFILE

The Band was formed in1994 on the initiative of Major George Whittingham, a retired Salvation Army Officer and former Deputy Bandmaster of the International Staff Band and for many years Bandmaster of the Upper Norwood Band of the Salvation Army.

Major Whittingham saw the opportunity to create a further avenue of service and Christian fellowship for Salvationists either approaching or already enjoying retirement.

Currently the Band numbers 36 members from 12 Salvation Army Centres in London and the South East representing a wealth of experience through commitment to their local corps band over many years and others who have served in bands in HM Forces including Kneller Hall. This wide range of skills brings together a group of keen musicians who are striving to achieve high standards of Christian discipleship and musicianship through which Salvationists and their friends throughout the wider brass band movement can both be reminded of and learn more of, the rich and varied heritage of Salvation Army music.
